Our Love Story About The 1Ness Camp
1Ness Camp was started by me and my wife, Mrs. Perry, in Winston-Salem, NC. We met through a friend and started dating. Along the way, we faced a lot of negativity from people who were unhappy in their own relationships. But we knew we were happy together, and that helped us stay strong. We decided to put our relationship with God first and promised to stick together no matter what challenges came our way. Our deep love for each other led us to get married.
I’ve always loved camping and being outdoors, but my wife had never been camping before. I introduced her to it, and to my surprise, she started to love it too. We began to go on camping trips together as a way to spend time with each other and strengthen our marriage. Our motto became “Thank You,” and every summer weekend, we made it a point to enjoy nature together.
After our first year of camping, my wife and I decided to invite our married friends to join us. We thought it would be fun and helpful for other Black married couples to experience nature together and work on their marriages. The positive changes we saw in our own marriage because of the camping trips inspired us to create 1Ness Camp.
1Ness Camp is a safe place for Black married couples to come and make their marriages stronger. The camp gives couples a chance to reconnect and build a strong foundation for a happy marriage and family. Through meaningful talks, fun activities, and time to reflect spiritually, couples learn more about their roles in marriage and family. They also discover new ways to show love to each other.
The special camping experience at 1Ness Camp lets Black married couples relax, talk deeply, and think about their marriages and families. By doing this, they grow closer and help each other have healthier marriages. Our camp has become part of something bigger similar to the Black Marriage Movement, which works to make Black marriages stronger.
